Andrzej Żuławski‘s Possession is one of my all-time top five favorite horror movies. Even though it didn’t immediately click with me the first time I saw it, the more times I watched it and the more times I told other people to watch it (earning both positive and negative reactions for doing so), it cemented itself as a title that brings together so much of what I love about the horror genre. When the movie got a Blu-ray release, then a 4K theatrical restoration, then a streaming release, it meant even more people were able to witness it, eventually generating enough excitement that a remake was announced.
Parker Finn is directing the movie, while Margaret Qualley takes over for Isabelle Adjani and Callum Turner takes over for Sam Neill. As someone who generally supports the idea of remakes, knowing that there are exceptions to the “remakes are doodoo” adage, I tried not to immediately dismiss the project. After all, Suspiria is another top five horror movie and I like what Luca Guadagnino did with his remake. However, now that the first set photos from the remake have landed online, I definitely have…some thoughts. Check out how I feel about the new project in the video below and make sure to see what else I’m doing on YouTube!
